Glass Inspiration from the Sea

10/10/2015

Winter is the time for huddling up in the studio and letting the creative urge take hold. I'm sure you know I've recently moved to an island in Puget Sound, where every walk on the beach brings new inspiration. Sea forms have such wonderful shapes and colors!

Like every other glass artist, I have tons of leftover glass scrap in the studio. There's actually something freeing about having constraints when you're creating - limiting yourself to certain colors, shapes or sizes, to curves or geometric designs, or in this case, scrap.

I want to immerse myself in the whole beach experience, surrender to scrap and see where it leads me.

There's no way to over-control a design if you are limited to all the odd shapes and bits of glass left over from cutting other projects. I think even the little tests I'm doing have an unplanned, organic quality that would be hard to create on purpose.

I LOVE happy accidents, I'm in heaven.
I'm thinking something wonderful
could happen...

Thanks Carol - I would love to see what you do. As you know, I'm a big fan of your painting. I'm still kicking myself for not buying that abstract at ArtEast.

All I can say is I love this new direction- I could go all layers of meaning on it. Adore.

Thanks Stacie, so glad you like it. I am moving toward finished pieces now. I'll share some images pretty soon. The color reactions are surprising - so much fun.
